The Insights page in RUM used to show only the built-in dashboards. You can now build your own and open them as extra tabs next to the built-in ones.
Create a dashboard or save a chart to one
The + menu at the top right of the Insights tab bar has New dashboard and Manage dashboards. Up to 100 dashboards are listed as tabs, and the rest open from the manage page.
In Explorer analytics, Save to dashboard on the chart toolbar adds the chart you're looking at as a panel on a new or existing dashboard. Pie and distribution charts can't be saved yet.
Panels ask the same questions as Explorer analytics
A panel query picks an application, or the built-in $app variable that follows the application selected on the page, plus an event type, an aggregation and its field, a group-by with a top N, and a filter. Panels render as Time series, Table, Stat, or Text.
Dashboard variables can take values from a RUM field or from a custom list. A new dashboard starts with three field variables: env, service, and version.
Clicking a value on a panel offers Open in Explorer: field = value, which opens the Explorer filtered to that value.
Versions, trash, and permission
- Every save creates a version, and the latest 20 are kept.
- A deleted dashboard goes to the Trash for 30 days and can be restored from the manage page.
- Creating and editing custom dashboards needs the Dashboards Manage permission, listed under Insights.
Limits on high-cardinality fields
Grouping by a field marked high-cardinality only allows count and sum, and Explorer analytics limits such a query to 7 days. Event ID fields, such as session_id, view_id, and error_id, can't be used for grouping.
Get started
Go to Flashduty console → RUM → Insights and choose New dashboard from the + menu, or open a chart in Explorer analytics and click Save to dashboard.
